The Betlach Family Foundation is a private organization based in San Diego, California. The organization was founded in effort to help promote and support notable contemporary art and important environmental issues. Members of the Board have been active in the arts as well as the environment since the mid 1960s. Over the decades, Foundation members have made donations to multiple non-profit artistic vehicles and environmental causes. Since its founding in 1999, the Betlach Family Foundation has helped support more than thirty organizations, artists, and events.

Board Members

Dr. Charles J. Betlach II
Founder and Director

Dr. Charles J. Betlach II is a pharmaceutical scientist with a Masters Degree in Cellular Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a PharmD degree in Pharmacy as well as a PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of California, San Francisco. He is the co-founder of a pharmaceutical company. Charles has been active in environmental causes all of his adult life. He has been a member of several environmental groups for over 30 years. Charles is also active in the arts. He is a member of several contemporary art museums and is a collector of contemporary art.

Melanie Betlach-Cuno

Melanie Betlach-Cuno is a graduate from the University of California at Santa Cruz where she studied biology (BA), and the Academy of Art University where she studied graphic design and new media (MFA). She is passionate about protecting the environment and animal activism.

Lou Haas

Louis N. Haas is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and Stanford Law School. While on active duty as an Army lawyer and officer, he served as chief trial attorney representing the government in contract dispute cases before the U.S. Army Board of Contract Appeals, Europe. Mr. Haas also performed trial work and advised clients in all areas of labor relations law as an associate with the firm of Littler, Mendelson & Fastiff before he co-founded Haas & Najarian in 1973. He has tried and supervised government contract disputes in virtually every forum in the country, including contract appeals boards, U.S. Court of Federal Claims, Federal District and Circuit Courts, U.S. Supreme Court and the GAO. Mr. Haas is a member of the State Bar of California and the Federal and American Bar Associations (sections on Public Contract Law and Labor Relations Law). He is a member of the Association of General Contractors Legal Advisory Committee and writes and lectures on construction and government contracts matters. In addition to his work in the government contracts area, Mr. Haas regularly provides business advice to clients in a wide range of industries including real estate, manufacturing, mining, technology and an array of service businesses. Mr. Haas provides advice and services to his business clients regarding the structuring of transactions and entities, financing and credit arrangements, and other general business and corporate matters. Mr. Haas also advises a number of nonprofit entities and has served on several nonprofit boards.
